How to Cancel Your Membership

Last updated on 05 Aug, 2026

Check Your Commitment Term First

Your Order Form states a Commitment Term (e.g., 12 months) and a Minimum Notice Period. You cannot cancel during your Commitment Term. Attempting to do so doesn't end your membership β€” it triggers a Termination Fee (see below) while your membership continues.

Once you're past your Commitment Term (in a month-to-month rollover), you can cancel following the process below.

Notice Requirement

Submit the online Termination Form β€” available through your member portal or at the front desk. We don't require phone-only cancellation.

Your notice must reach us by the deadline set by your Minimum Notice Period (stated on your Order Form; the default is 30 days if none is stated). If that deadline falls on a weekend or a Downtown Works holiday, it automatically extends to the next business day.

When Your Membership Actually Ends

This is different from what you might expect: cancellation is never mid-month, and there's no prorated refund.

Your membership ends at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time on the last day of a calendar month β€” specifically, the first calendar month-end that fully satisfies your Minimum Notice Period from the date we receive your notice.

Example: If your Minimum Notice Period is 30 days and you submit notice on September 5, that doesn't guarantee a September 30 end date β€” it depends on whether 30 days have fully elapsed by month-end. If not, your membership continues through the next full month that does satisfy the notice period, and you owe fees for that entire period with no proration.

If your notice arrives after your deadline, it's treated as received on the 1st of the following month, and your end date is recalculated from there β€” again, with no discount for the delay.

Termination Fee (Early Cancellation During Commitment Term)

If you attempt to cancel before your Commitment Term ends, you're responsible for a Termination Fee equal to:

  • All remaining Membership Fee Obligations for the rest of your Term, plus

  • Any costs Downtown Works incurred to prepare your space (IT, AV, security installs) and related restoration costs, plus

  • Any broker fees Downtown Works paid in connection with your agreement.

This fee is due within 30 days of written notice from us, and your Deposit will be applied against it first.

Confirming Your Cancellation Was Processed

  1. Log in to your member portal.

  2. Go to Billing > Membership.

  3. Check the Period field β€” an end date confirms your termination has been processed.

Outstanding Charges

Any unpaid fees or one-off charges before your end date will still be billed β€” review these under Billing > One-Off Fees.

Don't Forget Your Mail

If you have mail or package handling, you'll need to select a Mail Service Continuation option on your Termination Form β€” see What Happens to My Mailbox If I Cancel My Membership?
