If you're considering listing your Downtown Works address on Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business), Google Maps, or similar services, it's important to understand Google's eligibility rules before you set anything up.
Google's Requirement: A Real Physical Presence
Google requires a business to have a genuine physical presence where it interacts with customers or clients during business hours. This creates real limitations for two common Downtown Works setups:
Virtual Office (no physical space): Not eligible for a Google Business Profile. Google's policy specifically excludes addresses where a business doesn't actually operate from the location.
Coworking or shared office space: May be eligible, but only if your business meets all of the following:
Has clear signage identifying your business at the location.
Receives customers or clients on-site during business hours.
Is staffed by your own team during business hours.
Simply having a desk or office within a coworking space doesn't automatically qualify.
What Can Go Wrong
Listings verified by postcard often stay stuck in pending status, especially if the address is shared by multiple businesses or has no prior online record.
If your listing doesn't meet Google's criteria, it may be suspended or removed after verification review.
Downtown Works isn't responsible for Google's verification decisions, phone verification outcomes, or any compliance issues that result from how you use the address.
If You Need an Address That Qualifies
If your business needs an address eligible for Google Business Profile, ask about our physical office plans (Exclusive Desk or Private Office) — these are far more likely to meet Google's on-site staffing and customer-facing requirements than a Virtual Office plan.
